2023-24 Season
Two of opera’s most compelling heroines highlight Toronto City Opera’s 77th season, an exciting pairing of Georges Bizet’s Carmen, one of opera’s most beloved titles, and a rare Canadian performance of a modern American masterpiece, Carlisle Floyd’s Susannah. Carmen and Susannah tell the stories of two women who refuse to succumb to societal pressures or fall prey to the men who wish to possess them. Though separated by continents and centuries, these iconic women continue to inspire audiences worldwide.
